We had quite the Monster Mash at this year’s Halloween party at St. Mary’s Home! The exciting day started out with a visit from the children at St. Josaphat School. Residents lined up together in our St. Mary’s Home garden to hand out candy to a parade of ever-grateful trick or treaters. Seeing our Residents light up around these excited kids is something all of us at St. Mary’s Home look forward to seeing every year.
Once the party outside was over and the kids went back to school, it was time to continue the party inside! In the weeks leading up to the celebration, department staff were given pumpkins to decorate for the pumpkin decorating contest—which featured a variety of imaginative designs, including creatures of the night, a cookie monster, and even a flying saucer! Residents were able to snack on cupcakes and listen to the greatest hits of Halloween music while voting on which pumpkin was their favorite.
As the party carried on, we later had a contest for best costume where our Residents got to clap and cheer for their favorites! Our Residents and staff were so enthusiastic, we couldn’t decide who won in the end. As the deciding factor, Father Gil Ostdiek, OFM had the honor of deciding the best costume of the afternoon—one of our maintenance techs, Juan Carlos Godinez, dressed as Tigger! In excitement, Juan Carlos made the whole room burst with laughter after doing a victorious dance and heel kick!
From all of us here at St. Mary’s Home, we hope you had the most wonderful and spooktacular Halloween!
