Angels Heard on High

Christmas is fast approaching, and the spirit of the season can be felt by our Residents and throughout St. Mary’s Home. Our Home is decorated, festivities are underway, and in the week before Christmas, Yuletide melodies have been wafting through our halls. We were blessed with two visits from two singing groups, both of which featured angelic voices that charmed the ears and stirred the soul.

Singers from the Women’s Athletic Club of Chicago—also known as the WACquettes—got our Residents moving and swaying with renditions of well-loved Christmas jingles. Their selection also included songs from Mariah Carey and Simon and Garfunkel. With these familiar tunes, these ladies really got the crowd singing along with them! Led by director and accompanist Mark Burnell, this exceptionally talented group visits us twice a year, and we were so happy to see them back again to share the Christmas fun with us.

St. Mary’s Home always looks forward to a visit from the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel (OLMC) Treble Choir during the festive season. Residents were moved to watch and listen to these talented choristers demonstrate such focus, confidence, and passion for music and performing. These singers, along with the director of music at OLMC Paul French, performed quite the impressive repertoire: Beethoven, African spirituals, and traditional Christmas carols. Sing along with our Residents as they join these students in singing the timeless classic “O Come, All Ye Faithful”:

All of us at St. Mary’s Home are grateful to these special visitors, who brought wide smiles to our Residents and the joy of this holiday season.
