What better way to celebrate a wacky day like April Fool’s Day than by clowning around with the performers of Vaudeville Chicago! Vaudeville Chicago is comprised of professional clowns who specialize in performing for seniors throughout the Chicagoland area. These silly entertainers believe in healing through laughter and are able to work with various types of seniors in multiple states of care.
Two Vaudeville Chicago performers, dressed as court jesters, came prepared to give our Residents a barrel of laughs with well-timed slapstick gags while singing familiar tunes. Strumming ukuleles and something called a fish-tambourine—or “fish-borine” for short—these whimsical jesters brought with them shakers, clackers, and all sorts of goofy noisemakers for Residents to play and to get in on the act. Whether it was waving oversized peacock feathers, busting out their best dance moves, and even crowning one Resident the queen of the performance, Residents loved getting involved in the hijinks these goofballs created.
In the words of our Mother foundress St. Jeanne Jugan, “My little ones, we should always be cheerful, for our old people do not like long faces.” We are so glad the artists at Vaudeville Chicago could come to put smiles on our Residents’ faces. They are proof that laughter truly in the best medicine. Send in the clowns!
