St. Mary’s Home was bursting with color, music, and joy this Fat Tuesday as Residents, Sisters, and staff gathered in the auditorium for our annual Mardi Gras celebration. The festivities began the moment guests walked in, greeted by the irresistible aroma of fresh pączki, galettes de crabe, chocolate croissants, and saucisses feuilletées. With festive Hurricane drinks in hand, Residents chatted with friends and soaked in the anticipation of the party ahead.
The celebration kicked off with a lively parade as staff members—decked out in vibrant masks and cloaks—made their way down a makeshift route to the classic New Orleans tune “Oh, When the Saints Go Marching In.” Along the way, they handed out beads and candies, delighting Residents who were tickled pink—or perhaps more fittingly, purple, green, and gold.

Leading the procession were Medical Records team member Jenny Jones and New Orleans native Resident Joseph “Uncle Sam” Lacour. Their enthusiasm, warm smiles, and unmistakable Mardi Gras spirit set the tone for the entire event.
After the parade, the celebration continued with a performance from Resident favorite Matt Griffo. With his piano and ukulele, Matt filled the room with upbeat, familiar tunes that had everyone clapping, singing, and swaying along. Just when the excitement seemed to peak, Mother Margaret surprised Residents with raffle tickets for a chance to win cash prizes—an unexpected treat that brought even more smiles.
This year’s Mardi Gras celebration was truly one for the books. As they say in New Orleans, Laissez les bons temps rouler—let the good times roll!
