St. Mary’s Home was buzzing with excitement this October as we gathered to celebrate the Silver and Golden Jubilees of six Little Sisters who came from different homes in the Chicago Province!
The celebration began with a beautiful Mass celebrated by our Home’s chaplain, Fr. Don Craig. During Mass, we honored each Sister individually, recognizing her years of humble service and reflecting on how the call to this precious vocation touches hearts across the world. Fr. Don also shared a remarkable milestone: combined, the Jubilarians’ years of service totaled an incredible 250 years! It was a nice coincidence with the celebration of America turning 250!
Following Mass, the Jubilee Sisters visited Residents in both the small and main dining rooms, where Residents Pam and Pauline each delivered heartfelt speeches to welcome the Sisters and offer their congratulations. Pam also shared a lovely poem she wrote in honor of the Sisters’ unwavering dedication to caring for each Resident.
Sweet treats and perfectly packaged rosaries were distributed to each Resident as special gifts to mark the occasion. And the joy didn’t stop there! Sister Cecilia brought along her guitar and delighted everyone by playing a variety of familiar tunes, inviting Residents and staff alike to join in the singing.
Enjoy these videos of the Sisters singing “Oh When the Saints Go Marching In” and “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands.” These joyful moments perfectly capture the spirit of this special celebration!
We are deeply grateful to each Little Sister who has devoted her life to carrying on the mission of St. Jeanne Jugan and making life better for the elderly poor every day. Their years of faithful service are a beautiful testament to the power of compassion, love, and dedication.
