In honor of National Barbershop Quartet Day on April 11, St. Mary’s Home was treated with a visit from a St. Mary’s Home favorite, the Chicago Metro Quartet! This spirited acapella group performed all sorts of familiar hits of yesteryear, while also educating our Residents on the various types of barbershop. They started with traditional American songs like “America the Beautiful” and “Yankee Doodle,” transitioned to a traditional gospel piece, “This Little Light of Mine,” and even performed a barbershop rendition of “When I’m Sixty-Four” by The Beatles. Their rendition of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” was a big hit amongst our Residents, as they were encouraged to call out the name of their favorite team—the Cubbies, the Sox, and one lone Yankees fan who seemed to be the loudest of the bunch. No surprise there!
After the show, this big-hearted octet went the extra mile to make the days of our Residents better, visiting rooms of Residents who were unable to attend to perform a little ditty or two. The way Residents lit up with delight at the personalized performance was truly amazing to see.
Thank you to the Chicago Metro Quartet for always going above and beyond for us—both with your incredible musical talent and your love for our Residents. We can’t wait to harmonize with you again next year!
