St. Joseph’s Day

Happy St. Joseph’s Day!

March 19 is one of the most anticipated days of the year at our Home: St. Joseph’s Day.

March is dedicated to St. Joseph, spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary and foster father of Jesus. He has always held a special place in the hearts of the Little Sisters. Our foundress, St. Jeanne Jugan, had a deep devotion to him and passed it on to her spiritual daughters. From the beginning, St. Joseph has protected and cared for the Little Sisters and their Residents, and we continue to entrust our needs to his care, seeing in him a reflection of our Heavenly Father’s loving providence.

The celebration began with a beautiful Mass in our chapel, led by Bishop John Siemianowski and fellow priests. St. Mary’s Home and Jugan Terrace residents Joe Spreitzer and Joe Capri had the honor of presenting gifts to good St. Joe during the mass. Afterwards, guests, Residents, and Little Sisters gathered in the auditorium, beautifully decorated by the Association Jeanne Jugan with delightful centerpieces, red accents, and festive décor. A stunning St. Joseph’s table displayed flowers, desserts, and artisan breads shaped as a cross and shepherd’s staff.

Our staff prepared a delicious Italian meal, including roast beef in red wine sauce, polenta, broccolini, caprese salad, and fresh focaccia. Before the meal, Bishop Siemianowski offered a prayer of gratitude for God’s blessings and the joy of gathering together as a community.

The afternoon was a joyful time of family, faith, and thanksgiving for all that God and St. Joseph have done—and continue to do—for St. Mary’s Home.
